Like the question says, who makes the best engine for a zero turn mower? I’m sort of looking at maybe getting a new zero turn and Husqvarna has options with Briggs & Stratton and Kawasaki engines. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each, or are they close enough that it isn’t worth worrying about? Specific lines are the Briggs & Stratton Endurance Commercial series and the Kawasaki FR series. PZ72 for your time. No, I have no intentions of getting a professional grade $12k, mower. But it’s nice to dream.

Not a clue, but Briggs and ScrapIron is fun to say.

In my opinion, the best engine for a mower is the one used in the most models/most sales. That way there will be parts available later on when you need them.

FWIW, my dad and I just did oil changes on our push mowers this weekend. His Toro with a 190cc B&S had consumed almost all of its oil since the last change, while my cheapo MTD with a Honda engine that’s a few years older still had a full crankcase.

Honda’s are definitely the way to go on push mowers. I’m not interested in push mowing ~2.5 acres though. I’ve been borrowing a buddies zero turn since my tractor is in the shop and even on a zero turn it takes ~1.5 hours.

I'm not looking for a $14k mower. I want something solid but don't need professional grade as I'm only mowing my lawn, not running a lawn service or a golf course.
